This limited edition 12-fret Grand Auditorium showcases those same top-tier aesthetic virtues with the breathtaking pairing of striped West African ebony, sourced from Taylor’s Crelicam ebony mill in Cameroon, with richly variegated sinker redwood. The tight-grained redwood tops were sliced from old-growth logs reclaimed from the bottom of a California river, whose mineral-rich river bed infused the wood with an array of color hues. Sonically, redwood blends the warm overtone complexity of cedar with the attacking power of spruce, while ebony yields some of rosewood’s bell-like fidelity but with the more linear output of maple. The magic here is in the fusion of these tonal nuances with a 12-fret Grand Auditorium body. Players can expect a warm, balanced response that packs an extra punch with the help of the redwood top and the 12-fret’s shifted bridge location. The guitar is detailed with our finest Presentation Series appointments, including ebony binding with a beveled ebony armrest, elaborate Nouveau paua inlays and edge trim, and gold Gotoh tuners with a 21:1 tuning ratio for maximum precision. Designed with one of contemporary Christian music's most prolific and celebrated artists, the Steven Curtis Chapman Signature Model (SCCSM) is based on the Grand Auditorium 714 that has long been Chapman's favorite acoustic guitar for recording and performance. The guitar features Indian rosewood back and sides, a tobacco sunburst cedar top, and Indian rosewood binding. The fretboard and headstock inlay designs honor Chapman's daughter Maria, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 5. Both inlays are recreations of Maria�s drawings. The headstock inlay is a flower with a single petal colored in blue, while the fretboard design features a mother-of-pearl butterfly in at the 12th fret, accompanied by the word "SEE" in Maria's handwriting. Pearl fret marker dots are aligned along the bass side. Other features include an abalone rosette, abalone-dotted bridge pins, and Taylor Expression System electronics.
