They start with a visual inspection: they check aesthetic and structural elements of the body and all components for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where craftspeople check nut height, relief, action, and string height. Based on the results of the play test, they then adjust for maximum playability. Next, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. This full custom BTO Grand Auditorium was ordered by us at our last visit to the Taylor factory. The Macassar Ebony back and sides were hand picked by me from the Taylor premium stack, as was this amazing piece of Sinker Redwood. As you can see the results are gorgeous but as good as this guitar looks it's the tone that will win you over.
