G&L SB-1 Bass Swamp Ash Body Premier Blonde Translucent Finish

When Leo Fender launched the G&L SB-1 bass in 1982, he packed his latest innovations in pickup and bridge design into a straightforward, hard-working bass. At that time the SB-1 had an MFD single coil pickup and no pickguard, which was a departure from the classic single-pickup passive bass. By 1985, however, the SB-1 had taken the form it has today, with an MFD split-coil humbucking pickup and pickguard. In some way, the SB-1 set the stage for several G&L models to come: Leo took a a classic design and applied his core improvements, in this case, the MFD pickup and Saddle Lock bridge Learn More

  10. Santa Cruz RS Slope Shoulder Jumbo
    Sold

Santa Cruz RS Slope Shoulder Jumbo

This is an SCGC RS model which is Richard Hoovers interpretation of a vintage Gibson jumbo. For these slope shoulder jumbos SCGC uses perfectly quarter sawn, narrow, stiff, spruce brace stock, and then they double taper it. The first taper extends out beyond the bridge plate and then the second taper drops to the linings. This heavily knifed bracing style is something unique to Santa Cruz developed exclusively to create the woody, dry, explosive tone that the old Gibsons were prized for. It creates a light low mass brace, while not losing the snap and explosiveness that can be the result of a scalloped bracing design. Learn More

  13. Santa Cruz H13 2017 #627
    Sold

    Santa Cruz H13 2017 #627

2017 Santa Cruz H13. What’s up with thirteen frets? The historical precedent for this classic shape was the Gibson ‘Nick Lucas Special’ from the 1920’s and ’30’s, the one Bob Dylan holds in early photos. The “H” designation is an acknowledgment to the guardian of the lore of all things vintage and stringed, Maestro Paul Hostetter, who commissioned SCGC to build the prototype in 1978. In spite of the question of whether the historic 13 frets to the body had any basis in acoustic science, our reason for using it does. SCGC’s concept for the H-13 is to achieve power beyond what would be expected in a small-bodied guitar. Two fundamental lutherie tricks make this possible: a longer string length (more downward pressure at the saddle) and more air space via a deeper body (increased volume and bass response). To place the bridge in the optimal position for power and maintain the longer string length, the neck needs to join the body at the 13th fret. Cool, huh? This is a gorgeous classic with power and presence expected from a much larger instrument. Perfect for aggressive fingerstyle blues and vocal accompaniment, the H-13 feels really sweet to hold. 14. Guild Starfire SF-4 1997
    Sold

    Guild Starfire SF-4 1997

The double cutaway Starfire series was introduced in late 1963 beginning with the Starfire IV and Starfire V. The Starfire VI followed in 1964. These guitars were made to capture part of the market that was almost exclusively enjoyed by the Gibson ES series guitars. Like the Gibson ES-335, the Starfire IV has a center block of wood that runs from the neck to the tail and is glued to the top and back. This reduces feedback and increases sustain. Up through 1967 the neck was joined to the body at the 16th fret. After 1967, the neck-to-body joint was moved to the 18th fret to facilitate better access to the upper registers. Learn More

  15. Breedlove Crossover 00 BLK A-Style Mandolin
    Pre-Owned

Breedlove Crossover 00 BLK A-Style Mandolin

A crossover instrument for guitar players looking to expand their skills. The Breedlove Crossover OO Mandolin is designed to be the go-to instrument for guitarists wishing to add depth to their repertoire by learning to play the mandolin. This carved, solid-top mandolin features a wider nut width and a radiused fretboard inspired by the Breedlove Custom Shop for exceptional comfort and playability at an affordable price. This is the optimal instrument for guitar players looking to expand their skills by picking up the mandolin. Body Shape The Breedlove O body is an elegant rendition of the traditional teardrop "A" body shape that has typified mandolin style from Celtic to bluegrass. Woods The solid, carved Sitka spruce top is complimented by the carved maple back and sides -- a timeless combination that produces exceptional resonance, projection and musicality. Neck The semi-gloss finish on this handcrafted neck provides the most comfortable and fastest playing neck possible by preventing hand binding from the sticky texture of a full-gloss finish. Fretboard and Nut Width The radiused rosewood fretboard is optimized for comfort and playability, and the 1-3/16" nut width provides wider string spacing for faster, easier chording. Soundhole The oval hole provides a rich, full voice that blends well with other instruments in a band or ensemble. Aesthetic Elements The semi-gloss black finish on this mandolin is contrasted by an ivory binding at the top and back body. The binding provides protection for the instrument and highlights the elegant dimensions of the mandolin. Set-Up and Quality Assurance in Bend, Oregon USA Breedlove's comprehensive quality control process provides the player with an instrument that will play great right out of the box. Prior to shipment, every Breedlove instrument undergoes a rigorous multi-point inspection in Bend, Oregon by their expert U.S. quality control team. They start with a visual inspection: they check aesthetic and structural elements of the body and all components for flaws. Next, each guitar is tuned and undergoes a play test, where craftspeople check nut height, relief, action, and string height. Based on the results of the play test, they then adjust for maximum playability. Next, each instrument is buffed and polished by hand with painstaking attention to detail. Once the instrument has passed inspection, a signed QC sticker is placed, and the instrument is carefully packed and shipped.
