Made from 2002 to 2004, the Martin CEO-5 was a special edition D-12 style dreadnought with bearclaw Sitka spruce top. Both bridge and fingerboard were striped ebony. Martin CEO C.F. Martin IV asked the Acoustic Guitar Magazine Discussion Group for their design ideas and the resulting guitar was named as the CEO's choice. The interior paper label was signed by C.F. Martin IV. Carrying a distinct vintage-inspired design and updated like the D-18 a few years ago, the redesigned 000-18 offers many of the features found in our pre-war era guitars. In light of his ever-expanding reputation and fan base, Martin collaborated with John Mayer on the creation of a second namesake guitar, one with many of the same attributes as his first OM-28JM Limited Edition, but one that would be more affordable and more widely available in the tradition of the popular Martin 000-28EC Eric Clapton model. This tasteful Orchestra Model exhibits versatility for today's diverse contemporary musical styles. Like its predecessor, the OMJM John Mayer Special Edition features a top of Engelmann spruce and back and sides of East Indian rosewood for warm, rich tone. Scalloped "Hybrid" bracing enhances the full timbre of this tonewood combination. Body appointments are also similar, with a Style 45 rosette featuring a center ring of colorful paua shell, bold herringbone around the top, black/white back purfling around the back, grained ivoroid binding throughout, an HD Style zigzag back strip, and a traditional OM teardrop polished and beveled tortoise pickguard.
