One of only a handful ever made, the Pallet guitar by Bob Taylor was originally conceived to prove to the world that a great guitar builder can build an outstanding instrument regardless of the wood used. To prove this, Bob Taylor went to the back of the Taylor factory and proceeded to tear apart a few of the shipping pallets on the ground, and built himself a guitar using the weathered oak, and pine (or whatever the soft wood is on pallets) that these things are made of. The voicing architecture brings out extra warmth and tempers the wood’s ringing top end tendencies to create a balanced voice with an articulate response. Aesthetically, we’ve embellished the detail-rich 900 Series appointment package with an amber-brown shaded edgeburst finish treatment around the body and neck. Inspired by Dave Matthews 914ce, the DMSM is an Indian rosewood/Sitka spruce Grand Auditorium. A custom fretboard inlay blends elements of the popular "Cindy" inlay, which graces Matthews 914ce, with a design that pays tribute to the band's longtime sax player, LeRoi Moore, who passed away in 2008. Based on a sketch that Matthews provided, a crown inlay between the 11th and 12th frets honors Moore, incorporating ball-tipped points with one ball partially missing in his memory. A nickname of Moore's within the band, "Grux" is inlaid between the 13th and 18th frets. The headstock inlay also was developed from a sketch by Matthews.
