This is one of the rare Custom Shop 0000's Dick Boak dubbed the M5 and it is this guitar that was the inspiration for the Jorma M30 signature model. This was supposed to be a run of 14 guitars but we are told only 7 were completed, one of which Dick Boak lent to Jorma who fell in love with the guitar instantly. Jorma ended up buying that borrowed M5, and during his next visit to Martin he and Dick drew up the specs for a slightly watered down version of the M5 that became the M30 Jorma signature model. Perhaps the most revered vintage D-28s are the ones created in 1937 with forward shifted hand-scalloped X-bracing, Adirondack red spruce soundboard and a 1 3/4" neck width. This addition to the Authentic series is a recreation of the original 1937 model offered with Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) is employed for the top and braces. The new Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic torrefaction system.
