Perhaps the most revered vintage D-28s are the ones created in 1937 with forward shifted hand-scalloped X-bracing, Adirondack red spruce soundboard and a 1 3/4" neck width. This addition to the Authentic series is a recreation of the original 1937 model offered with Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Martin’s new Vintage Tone System (VTS) is employed for the top and braces. The new Martin Vintage Tone System (VTS) uses a unique recipe that is based on the historic torrefaction system. Eastman's Double Top Series feature an innovative take on the classic flat top design. With a unique modification to their top tonewoods, these guitars are more resonant, responsive, and feature better note clarity and balance. The Double Top models feature a pair of one-millimetre-thin spruce slices that are adjoined by Nomex. The latter is a honeycomb-like resinous substance – patented by DuPont – that was originally designed for use in the aerospace industry. It functions as a rigid wall between the two spruce pieces, adding on layers of density and depth. Yet, the added density does not compromise the guitars’ lightness and sonic range. They are designed to respond to all types of vibrations and can handle a variety of styles, ranging from intricate solo picking to larger band setups. This is a 1980 Gurian 3H-S3R. Gurian Guitars was a manufacturer of high quality acoustic guitars based in New York City, then Hinsdale, New Hampshire and finally West Swanzey, New Hampshire, from the 1960s to 1981. The guitars were designed by luthier Michael Gurian who also supervised production. The company was one of the earliest "boutique" guitar brands in the United States, offering an alternative product to those of the larger, factory-based makers of the day, with instruments characterized by a distinctive shape, features and sound. The S3R is a mid-sized instrument with plenty of power, brilliance and sustain. This size is quite versatile, an excellent choice for solo or accompaniment. The Size 3 model has become a favorite for recording work thanks to it's balanced tone. The 3H was a higher grade version of the standard S3R featuring 3-piece back, herringbone inlay on the top, back and sides gold plated Schaller tuners.
